Club Lago’s Guido Nardini bares all

Dining Chicago’s David Lissner helps Guido Nardini take it all off.

Last March, a boiler explosion in River North toppled a 50-foot chimney onto Club Lago and destroyed its second floor and the kitchen beneath. Rebuilding the historic bar and Italian restaurant took six months. During that time, Guido Nardini, who owns Club Lago with his brother, GianCarlo, vowed not to shave.

By the time October rolled around, he looked like an Orthodox rabbi.

Just before the restaurant held its grand reopening, the brothers took votes on how Guido’s new facial hair should be styled:

The Red Sox The Chester A. Arthur The George Clooney
The Drew Gooden The Ibsen The Amish

Dining Chicago’s David Lissner was there for the debearding, which raised $4,000 for the National Muscular Dystrophy Society’s Greater Illinois Chapter.

Also on the reopening front, I’m relieved to see that Peep’s Hot Dogs in Arlington Heights, closed since a grease chute fire in September, is sporting signs saying they’ll be open again next week.
